Nintendo fans have reason to celebrate. In the most recent edition of Nintendo Direct, the company officially announced the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, one of the most acclaimed and influential titles in the entire history of video games.
The game will be released in 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, and is already generating great expectations among players, who are waiting for a significant update to the classic.
The dream of a map without loading
Even with the announcement, Nintendo shared little information about the remake’s news, showing only a short teaser. This scarcity of details has stimulated discussions among fans, who are already speculating intensely about possible improvements to the title.
The theme that draws the most attention is, without a doubt, the map of Hyrule.
On forums like Reddit, several players expressed the desire for a fully integrated world, without the traditional loading screens that separated regions in the original. The proposal would allow for more fluid and uninterrupted exploration, similar to what was offered in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
What fans expect from the changes
For many in the community, turning Hyrule traversal into an ongoing experience would represent a major evolution. Some also defend the idea of a slightly larger and livelier map, with the famous Vila do Mercado taking on, for example, the appearance of a real city, full of characters and activities.
It is important to highlight that all these ideas are still the result of speculation and fan enthusiasm, without any official confirmation from Nintendo. It remains to be seen whether the company will opt for a more innovative approach or a faithful recreation of the original, with specific adjustments to gameplay and quality of life.
A timeless classic
To understand the size of the expectation, it is worth remembering the historical weight of the game. Released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, Ocarina of Time is often cited as one of the best video games of all time, with a maximum score of 99 on Metacritic — the highest ever given to a title.
The story follows the hero Link on his mission through the land of Hyrule to stop the plans of the antagonist Ganondorf. The game was a pioneer in establishing new standards for 3D adventures, serving as a reference for countless subsequent productions.
Celebrating 40 years
The moment chosen for the announcement was not random. The Legend of Zelda franchise turns 40 in 2026, and the remake of one of its most beloved chapters appears as Nintendo’s main gift to fans on this milestone date.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the game has returned. In 2011, it got a version for the Nintendo 3DS. Now, however, the expectation is for a much more ambitious reconstruction, which takes advantage of the full potential of the company’s new console.
When the game arrives in Brazil
The Brazilian public has an extra reason to celebrate. According to Nintendo, the remake of Ocarina of Time will come with full localization in Brazilian Portuguese, eliminating language barriers for those who want to experience the story in its entirety.
For now, the only point of attention is the exclusivity for the Nintendo Switch 2, which temporarily excludes those who have not yet updated their console. Without a precise release date, Nintendo promised to release more information in the coming months.
