Sydney Sweeney broke her silence on rumors of tension with Zendaya behind the scenes of the seriesEuphoria. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress called the narratives “crazy” and reinforced the cast’s unity throughout the three seasons.

Speculation gained momentum following the final season launch event in April 2026 at Hollywood’s Chinese Theater. The two actresses did not appear together in photos or public interactions, which fueled reports of their separation. Sweeney also published behind-the-scenes images without including Zendaya, which intensified comments on the networks.

Rumors had been circulating since last year

Publications such as the Daily Mail and Page Six had reported alleged discomfort between the actresses. Among the reasons cited were political differences, Zendaya’s contractual advantages as the protagonist and even Sweeney’s alleged interest in actor Tom Holland, Zendaya’s partner. None of the vehicles provided direct proof of the allegations.

Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard, denied any feud. “It’s really crazy to see how much social media and the press distort things,” he said. She highlighted that the cast grew together during recording and that everyone remained close, even exchanging ideas about the scenes in the trailer.

Contractual priority explains production pauses

Another point addressed by the actress was criticism about supposed delays caused by the cast’s busy schedules at the cinema. Sweeney explained that all the main actors had a “first position” clause with HBO: the moment the network scheduled the start of filming, external commitments were automatically suspended.

“I had contractual priority with HBO. So the moment they say, ‘Hey, this is the first day of filming,’ I legally can’t do anything else,” he said. The explanation applied to the entire main cast, including Zendaya.

What changes with the end of the series

Euphoriaended its trajectory with the third season, confirmed as the last by HBO in May 2026. The outcome divided opinions among fans, especially due to the dramatic tone of the final episodes. By debunking the rumors now, Sweeney helps bring the production full circle with a focus on collective work rather than external narratives.

The actress remains on the rise with projects outside of the series, but the statement shows how rumors can grow quickly around high-profile productions.
