The Waze navigation application begins releasing an unprecedented feature that allows traffic lights to be viewed directly on the map interface while users drive. This functionality meets a long-standing demand from many drivers, especially those traveling on unfamiliar routes.

For drivers who prioritize Waze on their journeys, the lack of identification of traffic lights on the screen has always represented a disadvantage, a feature already present in competitors such as Google Maps.

The ability to anticipate the location of a traffic light before reaching it is particularly valuable on longer routes or on roads with a reduced number of visible guidance points.

After a testing period that extended from December 2025 and the observation that Sygic already offered this option in some regions, Waze is now expanding access to navigation traffic lights to a growing group of users.

Information about availability began to emerge intermittently months ago, gaining momentum in recent weeks on forums such as Reddit, where several drivers confirmed they already had access to the new feature.

There are users who claim to have enjoyed this tool for several months, especially those located in countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia.

Initial data indicates that traffic lights will appear exclusively while navigation is in progress and only those directly connected to the itinerary established by the application.

The release process and gradual arrival of the feature

In order to avoid excessive visual information on the screen, the platform must display a maximum of three traffic lights simultaneously, especially when turn-by-turn route guidance is not active.

The launch of the system occurs in a progressive and monitored manner, meaning that the display of traffic lights will not be available to all users simultaneously. It is also important to note that, to date, there is no official timeline for full global implementation.

It is essential to remember that this new feature complements driving, increasing safety and predictability on the route, but does not replace the driver’s constant attention to the road.

After the implementation of traffic lights, the expectation is that Waze’s next major update will include “Stop” signs, a feature that has been under development for a considerable time.
