A serious air disaster took the lives of half a dozen people in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, with one of the fatal victims being the renowned musician, producer and comedian from the United States, Oliver Tree Nickel. The accident was recorded on Sunday morning (14/6), when two helicopters collided in mid-flight and crashed over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood, in the West Zone of the city. Authorities from the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro have already officially validated the data relating to the tragedy.

One of the fuselages hit Avenida das Américas, one of the busiest and most crucial roads for traffic in the region, while the other fell directly onto the yard of a dealership specializing in electric cars. The impact with the ground caused a large fire that destroyed at least twenty cars that were parked at the scene, requiring quick action from rescue teams to contain the spread of the fire.

Fire department professionals reported that the brutality of the air strike caused debris to be thrown considerable distances, scattering pieces over a radius of hundreds of meters. The precise reasons that led to this tragedy are already being investigated by local security forces, who work together with experts from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa), a body subordinate to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), to understand the exact dynamics of the event.
