Duo uses toy gun to rob pharmacy in Ponta Porã, MS; a suspect is detained and confesses
A man was detained by police in Ponta Porã, a city in Mato Grosso do Sul on the border with Paraguay, after participating in a robbery at a local pharmacy. In the action, an employee was captured, and the criminals used a plastic gun to simulate a threat, which highlights the duo’s audacity in trying to impose a risky situation with a harmless object.
Records from the establishment’s security cameras recorded the pair’s entry into the store. While one of the robbers confronted the employee, the other went straight to the shelves and stole deodorants. The two then fled, also taking two cell phones.
The identification of one of those involved was possible thanks to recognition made by the pharmacy owner. So far, the police have not released information about the arrest of the second perpetrator of the crime.
Weapons and objects seized in vacant land
The plastic weapon used in the robbery, along with a knife, was located in a vacant lot close to a church that was under construction in the region. The discovery reinforces the search work carried out shortly after the complaint.
Although police were able to recover one of the stolen cell phones, the second phone was not found. The arrested suspect claimed to have discarded the device near the place where he was detained, but searches in the area yielded no results.
Suspect taken to police station
The detained man was taken to the 1st Civil Police Station of Ponta Porã, where the case remains under investigation. The proximity to the Paraguayan border makes the city a frequent occurrence of property crimes, which requires quick action from security forces to prevent simple actions from escalating.
