The Haitian football team continues its journey in search of winning its first points in all World Cup appearances. Under the command of Sébastien Migné, the Caribbean country is preparing for its second appearance in the global tournament, with the Brazilian team as its next challenge this Friday.

Before the current edition of 2026, the only time Haiti participated in the World Cup was in 1974. On that occasion, the Caribbean team suffered three consecutive defeats during the group stage. However, even without scoring, the Haitians recorded a remarkable moment in football history, breaking the impressive run of games without conceding goals by legendary Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff.

In the 1974 campaign, Haiti managed to find the net twice, with both goals being credited to Emmanuel Sanon, an iconic figure for the country’s football. On the other hand, the Haitian defense was leaked 14 times, with scores of 3-1 against Italy, a 7-0 defeat imposed by Poland, and a 4-1 defeat against Argentina.

In the current 2026 World Cup, Haiti is part of Group C, sharing the bracket with the Brazilian team, in addition to Morocco and Scotland. In their debut match, the Caribbean team was beaten by Scotland 1-0. Despite the defeat, Haiti’s performance was surprising, not living up to expectations of being an easily dominated team.

During the initial clash against Scotland, the Haitian team demonstrated a preference for aerial plays and attacks that were mainly concentrated on the sides of the field. On the other hand, the team faced challenges in containing long balls from opponents.
