A tiny detail on defender Davinson Sánchez’s boot dampened Colombia fans’ celebrations during the clash with Portugal. The move took place last Saturday, in Miami, in the third round of Group K of the World Cup.

Although the move was initially validated, the referee reversed the decision and annulled Colombia’s goal. The measure came after the intervention of the VAR, which identified the Colombian athlete in an irregular offside situation by a few millimeters, highlighting the importance of technology in defining crucial results. The match ended goalless.

Even though they are already guaranteed in the next phase, Colombia and Portugal played a duel with a lot of action. With the draw, the Colombians secured first place in the group, with seven points, while the Portuguese advanced in second, with five.

The DR Congo team, in turn, secured their place by beating Uzbekistan. With four points, the team qualified among the eight best third-placed teams.

The clashes for the next stage have already been defined. DR Congo will play England on July 1st at 1pm in Atlanta. Portugal will face Croatia on July 2nd, at 8pm, in Toronto, Canada. Colombia will face Ghana on July 3, at 10:30 pm, in Kansas City.
