A shooting attack that occurred on Monday night (15) in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, left a councilor injured in the legs and caused the death of his advisor. The shots took place while both were broadcasting live in front of the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in the Alto de São Manoel neighborhood. The employee, who was recording the moment, did not survive his injuries.
At around 10pm, councilor Cabo Deyvison (PL), 37 years old, was outside the UPA, accompanying a woman and a child who needed care after a dog bite, according to information from the unit’s management. While the live was broadcast, a car approached and multiple shots were fired from inside it. The bullets hit the structure behind the parliamentarian.
Alyson Dyego de Oliveira Morais, the 37-year-old advisor, was quickly rescued, but unfortunately did not survive his serious injuries. Councilor Cabo Deyvison received initial care at the UPA and was then taken by ambulance to the Tarcísio Maia Regional Hospital.
Corporal Deyvison’s team released a statement on social media, informing that the parliamentarian’s health condition is considered stable. The note expressed deep sorrow for the loss of the aide, asking: “In this time of pain and concern, we ask for prayers for the recovery of Corporal Deyvison and the victim’s family.”
Progress of investigations into the attack
Civil Police authorities indicate that the main objective of the attack was the councilor. One of the hypotheses investigated is the possible connection of the crime with the complaints that the parliamentarian had been making about the presence and action of criminal factions in the city, a crucial context for understanding the seriousness and motivation of what happened.
Shortly after the incident, the car that was possibly used by the shooters was found abandoned in the Alameda dos Cajueiros neighborhood and will undergo forensic examination. At the scene of the shooting, police collected a 5.56 caliber ammunition magazine, normally used in rifles, confirming that restricted weapons were used in the attack.
Delegate Renato Oliveira, in charge of the investigation, described the attack as a barbaric action. He emphasized that the criminal act exposed patients, their companions and health professionals who were at the UPA to danger. “It is an extremely violent and criminal attitude that needs a response,” declared the delegate.
The Military Police immediately isolated the area of the health unit to allow technical expertise to work. Gunshot marks were visible at the entrance to the building. The Civil Police continues to investigate the authorship and motivations behind the attack, and at the time of publication of this news, no suspect had been arrested.
Cabo Deyvison, elected in 2024, is in his first term as councilor in the city of Mossoró. His previous professional career includes more than 13 years of service as a military police officer in the state of Ceará, before entering a political career.
