Aldi initiative in Topeka offers free ‘surprise boxes’ in online promotional action for a limited time
Mystery supermarket items, already packaged for discovery, will soon be available on Aldi’s online platform. The action is part of a new digital campaign by the network.
The surprise box trend has officially reached Aldi shoppers digitally, giving customers the opportunity to redeem one of these mystery items for free — but the offer is for a limited time.
“The ‘Aldi Blind Box’ builds on the excitement our fans already feel as they roam the aisles,” said Bridget Kozlowski, Aldi’s director of communications, in a press release. “Our consumers look for value at Aldi, but they also come for discovery. From viral ‘Aldi Finds’ products to familiar items that customers love to recommend, people enjoy the thrill of finding something new here.”

How and when to secure your Aldi mystery box
A new “Aldi Blind Box” will be released daily between 22nd and 25th June. Every day at 11 a.m. (Topeka time), customers can visit AldiBlindBox.com to order the day’s free themed box, while supplies last.
The boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, as informed by the company in a statement, which details the offer of more than 100 units for each “drop”.
Aldi in-store pickup in Topeka will not be available
The Capital-Journal visited Aldi locations at 105 SW 29th St. and 1530 SW Arvonia Place to ask about their participation in the surprise box initiative.
Managers at both stores said they had not received any notification about in-person participation for the distribution of mystery boxes.

- Select the “Aldi Blind Box” of the day.
- Enter shipping details.
- Get a free “Aldi Blind Box” delivered straight to your home.

The boxes are filled with consumer favorites and “fresh selections from every aisle,” as detailed by the grocery chain in its statement.
Social media users can head to Aldi’s Instagram page to find out what the next theme will be launching. The four box themes include:
- Surprise Snack Box: Includes premium cheeses, spreads, crunchy snacks and sweets.
- Fiber Surprise Box: Features favorite produce and healthier options.
- Protein Surprise Box: Contains essential items for satiety and surprising discoveries.
- Mystery Surprise Box: Offers a surprise selection of Aldi favorites and essentials.
“With surprise unboxings more popular than ever, this is our way of helping customers discover even more favorites,” added Kozlowski.

Customers at some Aldi stores in the United States may start to see changes ranging from new signage and pricing language to updated visuals as the German discount supermarket chain tests a revamped store format.

The company collaborates with Australian design agency and brand consultancy Landini Associates to develop a new format that can be adapted for various nations, including the United States. This move, which seeks to make the store layout more flexible, complements the “discovery” strategy applied in surprise boxes, reinforcing Aldi’s intention to innovate its customers’ experience in both the physical and digital environments.
On its website, Aldi describes its current stores as providing everyday essentials in “smaller, more sustainable spaces”, with product packaging designed to double as displays – a strategy aimed at saving time, labor and costs.
However, the new store model is designed to be more adaptable, enabling Aldi to test different layouts and formats. This could include smaller, “corner store” style establishments, which could help the company penetrate denser urban areas or smaller markets.
