Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s new high-security official vehicle is 27 million yen Toyota Century SUV
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi now uses a new official car for her routine trips. The vehicle, a Century model sports utility vehicle (SUV), which belongs to Toyota’s high-end sedan line, was delivered on June 22 to replace the previous one.
The Toyota manufacturer’s portal released detailed information about the model’s characteristics. Respecting the heritage and prestige of the luxury brand, symbolized by the “Phoenix” emblem present since 1967 and the impeccable finish of the bodywork, the vehicle was designed with a total focus on comfort and spaciousness for rear seat occupants, under the concept that “Everything is for those who sit in the back”. Among its standout features are an electrically operated retractable step, rear doors that open up to 75 degrees and fixed stopping points, a reclining rear seat that offers heated and retractable foot support, as well as a massage system that extends from the back to the thighs. There is also a folding table, reinforcing its proposal of being an “office on wheels”.
According to the automaker’s official website, the retail value for the standard version of the Century SUV vehicle is 27 million yen. This amount indicates an increase of 4 million yen compared to the 23 million yen for the equivalent sedan model. Vehicle safety experts point out that, in addition to the list price, cars destined for heads of state such as the Prime Minister receive significant adaptations, including shielding, encrypted communication systems and other advanced protections, justifying the high cost to guarantee the integrity of the public figure. These improvements are crucial for safety on official journeys and are a global practice in high-profile vehicles.
Prime Minister Takaichi used the newly acquired official car for the first time during a public engagement, on the same date the vehicle was delivered.
