AMD Adrenalin 26.6.2 driver failure on Windows 10 requires rollback and suspends FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX cards
Developer AMD has recognized a critical flaw in the recently released Radeon Software Adrenalin 26.6.2 driver, which has caused inconvenience for owners of Radeon graphics processing units who remain on the Windows 10 operating system. The update, after being installed, can cause an error message in the device manager and, in some cases, completely prevent the software from starting.
User reports indicate that cards such as the Radeon RX 7900 and 7800 XT are presenting the problem, identified by error code 43. The inconsistency is not limited exclusively to RDNA 3 architectures, it also affects some Radeon RX 9060 XT cards and even GPUs integrated into Ryzen 9000 series processors.
Details of the flaw identified by AMD in the driver for Windows 10
The good news for most is that the manufacturer confirmed that the issue appears to be restricted only to the Windows 10 environment, reassuring Windows 11 users. Although the company’s engineers are already dedicated to investigating the situation, AMD has not yet provided details about a possible fix package or the release of a new version of the driver to resolve the impasse. The persistence of such issues in Windows 10 highlights an ongoing challenge for users who choose not to migrate, especially considering that Microsoft no longer officially supports this version of the operating system, which could lead to less priority driver support from manufacturers like AMD.
As a palliative measure, until a definitive solution is available, the company advises that impacted users carry out the rollback procedure, returning to the previous version of the software, Radeon Software Adrenalin 26.6.1. Several reports from those who have already applied this recommendation indicate that the reversal proved to be effective in temporarily overcoming the problem.
Impact of the flaw: the absence of FSR 4.1 for impaired users
The latest version of the AMD driver came with important new features, including support for the long-awaited release of DOOM: The Dark Ages and the Resynced version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. However, the main innovation was the arrival of FSR 4.1 technology, specifically aimed at Radeon RX 7000 series video cards, based on the RDNA 3 architecture.

Consequently, users experiencing the bug on Windows 10, especially those with previous generation GPUs that would benefit from the new technology, were left without access to FSR 4.1 indefinitely. It is crucial to reiterate that gamers who have already transitioned to Windows 11 should not experience any complications with this update.
For the group of affected users, the only viable alternative at the moment is to wait for an official fix from AMD. The situation is worsened by the fact that Microsoft has ended official support for Windows 10, which may impact the speed and priority of future solutions to specific problems on this system.
