Donald Trump will play a central role in the 2026 World Cup final, with his presence confirmed for the presentation of the cup
The president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, confirmed last Tuesday (23) that Donald Trump, president of the United States, will participate in the 2026 World Cup final. He will be present at the trophy ceremony to the champion team, as announced by the director in New York.
Infantino gave an interview to the North American broadcaster Fox News, where he detailed his participation. “We will be together with the president (Trump), enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together. We are together all the time”, declared the head of FIFA, emphasizing the partnership between the two leaders.
The leader’s statement was quickly published by the White House’s official profile on the social network X, reiterating the information. To date, Donald Trump has not publicly commented on the matter. The big decision for the 2026 World Cup is scheduled for July 19th, at the New Jersey stadium.
Despite being known as a great sports enthusiast and a regular at major events, there was some uncertainty about the North American president’s presence in the World Cup decision. Trump, for example, did not attend any other matches for the United States national team or other teams during the tournament, according to previous reports.
It is important to note that this will not be the first time that Trump and Infantino have shared the stage at a sports awards show in the United States, setting a precedent for future occasions. Both were at the ceremony for the first edition of the Club World Cup, held in the country in 2025, when Chelsea beat PSG 3-0. On that occasion, Trump handed the trophy to the captain of the English team, Reece James, demonstrating an already existing collaboration in major football events in the American territory.
