Harry Collett reflects on journey in House of the Dragon after character goodbye in season opener
The third season of the series “House of the Dragon” premiered last Sunday (21) on HBO and HBO Max, giving viewers a sequence of events marked by significant losses, following the brutal tradition of the “Game of Thrones” franchise. At least four important figures said goodbye in the first episode, and one of the central actors used social media to express gratitude and say goodbye to fans. The following text contains spoilers for the season premiere.
Actor Harry Collett, who plays Jace Velaryon in the production, took to his Instagram profile shortly after the screening of the opening chapter of the new series to share his emotions with the public. He began his message by declaring, “Well, I don’t know where to start. I hope you enjoyed the first episode.”
Collett recalled his entry into the cast of the series, a moment he considers decisive for his professional career. “I was cast in this series when I was 17 years old, and I was waiting for a role like this in my career. I am eternally grateful that they gave it to me in the first place. Little Harry would jump for joy if he had known this way back when”, said the artist.
The 22-year-old British man revealed that he was aware of the tragic fate of his character, the son of Princess Rhaenyra (played by Emma D’Arcy), who would meet his end in the eagerly awaited Battle of the Gorge. “Yes, I was warned that this would happen from the first season. And honestly, I would have been happy even if the death had happened at the beginning. That’s the power this show has. Even if I had played a tree, I would have been happy beyond measure,” said the actor.
In his publication, Collett made a point of thanking showrunner Ryan Condal and casting director Kate Rhodes James by name, highlighting the impact they had on his life and career. He extended his thanks to those he called “my second family”, referring to his co-stars.
The experience of working with the team was described by Collett as a “rare treasure”, due to the strong unity and welcoming environment. “It’s a rare treasure to join a team where everyone gets along and that feels like a second home (even though we are a very dysfunctional family on the show). I will never take that for granted. I know I made friends that I will keep for the rest of my life,” he emphasized.
Finally, the actor directed his message to viewers, recognizing their fundamental role in his journey. “Lastly, I’d like to thank the fans. Without all of you, I wouldn’t be here. You accepted me as your Jace, and I’m honored by that. It’s all I ever wanted. You’ve been the light of my life for the past five years, you’ve supported me in everything I’ve done, wherever you are in the world.”
Concluding his emotional farewell, Collett reiterated his deep affection for his fans. “I can’t put into words how much you all mean to me. Now listen to me, Jace may be gone, but I’m not going anywhere,” he promised. “I love you all. So much! Bring on the future!”
