Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan Markle plan to return to the United Kingdom with children; Althorp House is seen as an option
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may soon undertake a significant journey to the United Kingdom. International media reports indicate that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with Princes Archie and Lilibet, have plans to travel to the country in July, which would be the family’s first time on British soil since 2022.
The main motivation for Harry’s arrival would be his participation in preparatory events for the 2027 Invictus Games, scheduled for Birmingham between July 10th and 17th of the following year. The prince’s schedule has generated questions about the family’s possible place of accommodation during the period.
A point of great interest is Althorp House, a historic property of the Spencer lineage, situated in West Northamptonshire. This residence, which served as home to Princess Diana during her childhood and youth, will have restricted access to the public on July 10th and 11th. This coincidence sparked speculation among royal analysts about a possible visit, or even accommodation, by Harry, Meghan and their heirs.
The place carries deep symbolism for the Duke of Sussex. More than her mother’s home in her youth, Althorp is the princess’s final resting place, with her tomb situated on an exclusive island in the estate’s lake. With the potential trip taking place just after Diana’s birthday on July 1, the occasion would be emotionally charged for the royal family.
Previously, Prince Harry has already stayed at the property of his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, on other trips to the United Kingdom. In August 2024, for example, he visited the country for the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes, staying at the residence.
At the same time, reports suggest that King Charles III offered his son accommodation in one of the Crown’s properties, if the visit is confirmed. However, there is no confirmation of acceptance of this invitation so far.
It wouldn’t be the first time that the British monarch extended an invitation to the couple to stay. In past opportunities, Harry has received offers to stay at royal properties, such as Buckingham Palace, but preferred other options.
Security remains one of the biggest obstacles to the Sussexes’ more regular visits to the United Kingdom. Since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lost their police escort paid for by the British government. The prince has waged a protracted legal dispute seeking to reverse this measure, citing concerns about the physical integrity of his family.
In a statement given in London, Harry categorically expressed his perspective on the matter. He has stated that “The United Kingdom is my home. The United Kingdom is central to my children’s cultural heritage and a place where I want them to feel as much at home as where they currently live in the United States.”

At that same moment, the prince emphasized that “This cannot happen if there is no possibility of keeping them safe when they are on British soil.”
He added: “I cannot put my wife in danger in this way and, given my life experiences, I am also reluctant to put myself at risk unnecessarily.”
Although a formal meeting between Harry and King Charles has not been confirmed for the eventual trip, the relationship between father and son appears to be less turbulent than in recent years. In September 2025, the two had a private dialogue lasting approximately 55 minutes in London, which represented their first in-person contact in 19 months.
Prince Harry, in a recent statement, expressed his public desire to restore family ties. He said: “There is no point in fighting any longer; life is precious. I don’t know how much time my father has left.”
And he finished his speech: “He doesn’t talk to me because of these security issues, but it would be good for us to reconcile.”
The last time Harry and Meghan visited the United Kingdom in the company of Archie and Lilibet took place in June 2022, on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee festivities. Since that date, the couple’s children have not returned to British soil.
In his memoir, “Spare”, Harry recounted his and Meghan’s first visit to his mother’s grave in Althorp, a moment he described as intensely moving.
He wrote: “No visit to this place has ever been easy, but this… twenty-fifth birthday. And Meg’s first time. Finally, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet Mommy.”
Describing the occasion, he detailed: “We hesitated, we hugged, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my thoughts, told her I missed her, asked for her guidance and clarity.” Later, as he watched Meghan at the memorial, he questioned what she had prayed for. “Clarity,” she replied. “And guidance.”
If the trip comes to fruition, the return of Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet to the United Kingdom could go beyond a simple family visit, turning into an occasion full of symbolism, memories and potential reconnections within the British monarchy.
