Worker assembles mountains of pasta in the cafeteria and goes viral with giant dishes
A meal that can easily exceed one kilo. This image, which could be seen as an exaggeration, is part of the daily life of Luiz Guilherme da Silva, a 33-year-old bed fitter, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Greater Recife. His Instagram videos often show the worker in his cafeteria with hearty dishes.
A food item always in evidence in his meals is pasta, his favorite. In addition to pasta, meat and beans also make up the dish, but they are often barely noticeable under the huge portion of noodles. The recordings are made by Daniel Rodrigues, a colleague who works as an editor at the same company.
In a statement, Luiz revealed that he has always had a considerable appetite and, since childhood, his meals have attracted attention due to their size.
He explained that he usually eats his first meal at home, but supplements it with a “reinforcement” when he gets to work. Lunch, in turn, is the time when food intake reaches its maximum point.
“Whenever I go to work, I eat at home first. Then, when I get to the company, I eat a little more, and at lunch time is when I really dedicate myself to the meal. I’ve always liked to eat a lot, since I was little”, he described.
The menu offered in the company’s cafeteria changes throughout the week, but the amount of food, according to him, always remains large.
“The menu is quite varied. There are days with soup, others with couscous, and also cassava. The specific days for pasta are Monday, Wednesday and Friday”, explained the assembler.
Despite the visibility he has gained among colleagues and on digital platforms, he ensures that he does not receive negative comments in the cafeteria, and takes comments made on the internet with humor. What happens most, according to him, is the curiosity of those who see the dish for the first time.
“Nobody makes negative comments because people here are newer, they don’t know me yet. They are just surprised, thinking that I won’t be able to eat everything. They believe that I put the food out just to ‘make fun’. On the internet, I find the comments amusing, I take everything in stride, as a joke”, said Luiz.

Appetite and eating routine outside the work environment
Luiz stated that he does not have an exact measurement of how much he eats at each meal, but he estimates that the dishes weigh more than one kilo. As for his weight, he estimates it to be a little over 70 kilos.
He also mentioned that he doesn’t tend to gain weight easily, and this only happens when he exercises at the gym, a period in which he manages to gain muscle mass. Currently, this workout routine has not been possible due to his intense schedule and lack of time, which helps explain why he maintains the weight despite the large portions.
“I believe my weight is around 70 kilos. I only gained weight like that when I was going to the gym. In the past, I worked out, but now I can’t train anymore because of the daily rush”, he reported.
Living with his wife and son, Luiz indicated that the household’s monthly food expenses amount to approximately R$800. He revealed that his partner prepares large quantities of food to satisfy his appetite: a packet and a half of pasta and several breads are among the items consumed daily.
“I really like pasta, I don’t like rice. I ask her to prepare it, and she makes a pack and a half. When my wife buys bread, I consume at least six units a day”, detailed Luiz.
