Boy unearths rare 6th century jewel in Israeli park linked to miracles of Jesus
A remarkable discovery was recently made in Israel’s Korazim National Park. A 12-year-old boy found a precious stone in an area historically associated with the miracles performed by Jesus Christ, according to New Testament accounts.
The find, which occurred near the Sea of Galilee, was officially released this month by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. Korazim is located approximately two miles north of Capernaum, an ancient fishing village that served as a central point for Jesus’ ministry. The presence of a luxury item in a region so linked to a figure who preached simplicity offers a fascinating glimpse into the social diversity of the time, enriching historical understanding beyond the predominant religious perspective.
Characteristics of ancient jewelry and its historical dating
Images of the relic reveal its modest size and a striking light blue hue at its center. Archaeologists estimate that the precious stone dates back to the sixth century after Christ, indicating its antiquity and historical importance.
The artifact was unearthed by Alon Horowitz, a student at Ramat Korazim Regional Primary School, located near Elifelet. He participated in a community excavation project, an initiative that involved several schoolmates in the search for traces of the past.

Young discoverer Alon Horowitz’s moving account
Alon described the moment of discovery with enthusiasm. “After three days of digging, with about ten minutes left before we finished activities, I was digging with my trowel and, suddenly, I saw something blue, rounded and with a special appearance,” said the student in a statement issued by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. He added: “I took the object and presented it to the archaeologist. When I realized it was something rare, I felt immensely happy and proud.”
Achia Kohn-Tavor, director responsible for excavations at Korazim, confirmed that the stone is an unusual variation of agate. This gem was considered a luxury item during the Roman and Byzantine eras, which increases its historical and archaeological value.
“It was located inside a prosperous residence, which suggests that it belonged to a member of a family with financial resources,” the director explained to Fox News Digital. “Archaeological experts believe the item could have been owned by either a man or a woman at the time,” he added.
