Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro reports friction and humiliation with Flávio Bolsonaro in 2026 political dispute
Michelle Bolsonaro, member of the PL and former first lady, released a video on her digital platforms where she claims to have suffered inadequate treatment and humiliation by Flávio Bolsonaro. The senator, who was nominated by former president Jair Bolsonaro to run for President in the October election, spoke out after the repercussions, apologizing and denying any intention of offending Michelle.
Through two recordings, Michelle revealed a disagreement with Flávio, mentioning that communication between them had been interrupted since the end of the previous year. The core of the divergence lies in the organization of the Liberal Party platform in the state of Ceará, where the party sought to formalize a coalition with former governor Ciro Gomes, a strategy that was publicly contested by the former first lady.
Narrating the episode, Michelle detailed that she tried to contact Flávio several times by phone, without success. Hours after its initial post, he finally returned the call, but the former first lady expressed that the tenor of the conversation was worse than the silence. She described Flávio’s stance as “very harsh”, with allegations of disrespect and mistreatment during the call, emphasizing that it had not provoked such a reaction.

She went on to report that Flávio advised her to stay away from party deliberations, suggesting that she “had arrived yesterday” and had little understanding of politics. Faced with what she classified as humiliation, Michelle stated that she accepted the situation, interpreting that her contribution or support was unwanted or irrelevant. Consequently, she decided to withdraw and maintain a reserved stance.
During her explanation, Michelle made a point of referring to Flávio by his first name, using terms such as “my stepson” and “pre-candidate”, avoiding using the surname “Bolsonaro” in any part of her speech.
After Michelle publicly disclosed the disagreement, Flávio Bolsonaro broadcast live on his social networks. The event took place before Brazil’s match against Scotland, valid for the 2026 World Cup, where he appeared accompanied by his wife and wearing a Neymar mask.
At the time, he declared: “Today is game day, nothing and no one bothers me. Let’s talk about good things, let’s talk about football”, focusing attention on the sporting event.
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro issues apology and expresses desire for reconciliation
After the match ended, Flávio used his social networks to publish an official statement. In it, the senator apologized to Michelle, assuring that there was no intention to offend her and reiterating his availability for a meeting, stating that he had an “open heart”.
In his statement, the senator emphasized: “At no time did I offend or intend to offend Michelle. If I did so at any point, once again, I apologize. I have respect and recognition for her for her work at PL Mulher, for her care for my father and for everything she represents for Brazil.”
Flávio added that the Bolsonaro family is facing a challenging period and expressed understanding for Michelle’s anguish in the face of Jair’s “suffering with such injustice.” He also reported having scheduled a meeting with important female figures for next Wednesday, the 1st, in the federal capital.
The senator also reported that, on that Wednesday morning, he personally called Michelle to invite her, describing the attempt as an “unrequited gesture”. He stated that she did not answer, and did not even return a message left. To his surprise, Michelle’s video was posted in the afternoon of the same day, but he reiterated that he keeps the invitation “with an open heart”.
Michelle Bolsonaro criticizes PL’s alliance with former governor Ciro Gomes in Ceará
The incident, as reported by Michelle, originated after her participation in a rally in Ceará, at the end of the previous year. At the time, she expressed disapproval of the negotiations for the composition of the PL platform in the state. The party sought support from PSDB’s Ciro Gomes, who had been a vocal critic of Jair Bolsonaro during his presidential term.
During the event in Fortaleza, Michelle, on stage, addressed deputy André Fernandes (PL-CE), one of the main people responsible for approaching Ciro Gomes. She publicly stated that she considered the alliance “hasty”.
“It’s about that. It’s about this alliance that you rushed into making. I’m proud of you, but making an alliance with the man who is against the greatest leader of the right, that’s not possible”, said Michelle, directing her gaze at Fernandes during her speech.
Ciro Gomes appears as a pre-candidate for the Ceará government. Quaest survey data, published in April on the local electoral scenario, shows Gomes leading with 41% of voting intentions, followed by Elmano de Freitas (PT) with 32% and Eduardo Girão (Novo) with 4%. The PL’s articulation with Ciro Gomes had as its main objective ensuring the former governor’s support for Flávio’s presidential pre-candidacy, strengthening his platform in the state of Ceará and demonstrating the complexity of regional electoral strategies for the national election.
Michelle stated that she followed Flávio’s “posts against me on social media”, describing them as “harsh words” and an “aggressive tone” in defense of André Fernandes. She interpreted that, by defending Fernandes, Flávio would be indirectly endorsing the politician who, according to her, had already referred to him, his mother and his brothers as “corrupt” and “Nazi snake eggs”.
The former first lady also declared that, in her view, Ciro Gomes played a crucial role “in the process that led to my husband’s ineligibility.” She also mentioned that the former Ceará governor had previously classified Bolsonaro and his descendants, including Flávio, as corrupt and criminals.
Another source of disagreement lies in Ceará’s candidacy for the Senate. While Michelle expresses support for federal deputy Priscila Costa (PL), André Fernandes has been working for the party to nominate his father, state deputy Alcides Fernandes (PL), for the dispute.
Michelle Bolsonaro accuses online attacks of an orchestrated nature
In the video, the former first lady reported that, after Flávio’s demonstration, other children of Jair Bolsonaro also made similar posts, reacting to his position on the Ceará issue. For Michelle, the sequence of actions indicated a reaction that seemed “premeditated”.
Michelle declared that, in the view of Flávio and his circle, she does not understand politics, and that is why she moved away, and has not been contacted by him since then, nor has she sought him out, out of respect for his speech. She clarified that the video aims to “disprove the narratives and news circulating in the press.”
“I know who plants them. I know who the sources are. They treat me as if I were an idiot, as if I were someone who arrived yesterday, but I’m not. I know more than they think”, declared Michelle in a striking part of her speech.
Former first lady says that election dispute is not a priority
Sectors of Bolsonaro’s allied base are exerting pressure on the former first lady to intensify her participation in Flávio’s pre-campaign, accusing her of little commitment to this task. However, in her video, Michelle refuted the allegation that she had conditioned her support for the candidacy on a public apology from Flávio.
“I have never asked for, demanded or conditioned a public apology from anyone. I don’t need that. I already released forgiveness a long time ago”, assured Michelle.
In another part of the videos, without identifying those responsible, Michelle mentioned being the target of daily attacks by a group based abroad. She stated that “some of them” are seen in photographs alongside Flávio and that her teenage daughter, Laura, suffers from the situation as she “follows everything”. The contextual information that Eduardo Bolsonaro has resided in the United States since the previous year was presented.
“They make posts and videos removing the surname Bolsonaro from my name, in an attempt to reach me. They don’t affect me, I know who my husband and I are. But do they think about what they are causing in my daughter’s life? She is a teenager who follows everything, who reads everything and who feels everything”, expressed the former first lady.
Michelle Bolsonaro interpreted Flávio’s lack of interest in his political support
“They don’t care. For them everything is politics, and a politics that does not exist as a function of human beings. This type of politics serves nothing other than selfishness”, he criticized.
Michelle Bolsonaro reveals distance in communication with Flávio
In her recording, Michelle shared that she does not have conversations with Flávio, despite the senator’s frequent visits to her residence. She stated: “Flávio comes to my house every week, more than once. If he really wanted to talk to me, he would have already.”
The former first lady reiterated her criticism of the formation of an alliance with Ciro Gomes in Ceará, suggesting that such a move should only be considered in a possible second round. For Michelle, “Ciro Gomes has proven countless times to be unreliable.”
“I’m not demanding that any alliance be dissolved in Ceará, but that it be postponed until the second round. I’m against it, but that’s just my conviction. If the right wants to unite to defeat the PT, that’s fine,” he declared. She added: “But coherence requires that this only happen in the second round. We need to give a chance to the candidate who truly fits in and defends our values.”
