King Charles III insists on meeting with Harry and family; newspaper highlights resistance from William and Camilla
King Charles III expresses a firm desire for a private meeting with his youngest son, Prince Harry, and his family. A recent article in the British newspaper Daily Mail highlights the monarch’s intention to get closer to Harry, Duchess Meghan Markle and grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.
The report indicates that the meeting between the king, his son and family should take place in July, during an unusual trip by Harry, his wife and children to the United Kingdom. This possible meeting, however, is a source of great controversy. The Daily Mail also reveals that Prince William and Queen Consort Camilla are vehemently opposed to Charles III’s plans.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in January 2020, moving to the United States shortly thereafter.
In 2021, Duchess Meghan Markle made serious accusations of racism against a member of the royal family, whose identity was not revealed. Later, in 2023, Harry released his autobiography, ‘What’s Left’, in which he detailed an incident of physical aggression by William during an argument about Meghan and also accused Camilla of divulging royal secrets to the British media.
According to information from the Daily Mail, King Charles III intends for the meeting with Harry, Meghan Markle and their grandchildren to take place “privately” and inside a royal residence.

However, the same newspaper sources point out that Queen Camilla will probably present an “excuse” to avoid being present, and that it would be “impossible” for Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton to want to share the same space with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The Daily Mail also reports that advisors at Buckingham Palace express concern about the chance of Harry and Meghan using the visit for a new public projection effort, especially with information that they could be accompanied by a film crew.
British Royal Family expert Phil Dampier commented to the Mail that “skeptical observers might argue that Harry and Meghan perceive a reduction in their influence in the United States and are therefore seeking a renewal of the royal aura.”
If Harry and his family’s trip to England does come to fruition, it will represent the first time in four years that the prince, his wife and children will visit the United Kingdom.
Dampier further added that “the king seeks reconciliation with his son and looks forward to seeing his grandchildren. I believe he will wish to avoid a public meeting during this visit, as it would turn the situation into a spectacle, but he would be willing to receive them privately.”
Regarding Camilla, the expert added: “The queen’s willingness to meet them is a different point. I wouldn’t be surprised if she arranged another family commitment to not attend. She felt wronged by the book ‘What’s Left’.” Dampier also highlighted that “there is currently no chance of Harry meeting William and Kate.”
To date, spokespeople for the British Royal Family and representatives for Harry and Meghan Markle have not made public statements about the Daily Mail story or about Charles III’s alleged reunion plans with his son.
