Manchester City formalizes arrival of Elliot Anderson for R$795 million, historic value for a British player in the post-Guardiola era
Manchester City completed a deal to acquire midfielder Elliot Anderson, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest. Information about the transfer was confirmed by an investigation by ESPN.
The English player, a member of the national team coached by Thomas Tuchel for the World Cup, is preparing to join the squad at the Etihad Stadium. The move represents a historic sum for a British footballer.
Sources linked to the club indicate that the amount of the negotiation is 116 million pounds (equivalent to around R$795 million), without the inclusion of performance bonuses. This value is slightly lower than the absolute record of 125 million pounds (R$856.75 million) paid by Liverpool to Newcastle last season, for the signing of Alexander Isak.
However, Elliot Anderson will surpass the previous mark for a British athlete, which belonged to Declan Rice, acquired by Arsenal from West Ham for 105 million pounds in 2023. Additionally, this transaction sets a new record for Manchester City itself, surpassing the 100 million pounds spent by Jack Grealish in 2021.
The Manchester team chose Anderson as a priority in the summer, completing the deal after seeing two initial offers rejected. The player must undergo medical examinations in the United States, where he is currently concentrated with the English team for the decisive clash against Panama, this Saturday (27), in the final round of the group stage of the World Cup.
At 23 years old, the midfielder represents City’s first major acquisition since Pep Guardiola’s departure from coaching. There are expectations that Enzo Maresca, former Chelsea coach, will soon be made official as the Spaniard’s successor.
The arrival of Anderson, who was also in Manchester United’s sights, aims to strengthen the club’s midfield sector. This move comes after the departure of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid, in a free transfer, and in a period of uncertainty regarding the retention of names like Nico González and Tijjani Reijnders in the squad.
