Striker Paul Mullin and Wrexham officially end amicable contract after five seasons
Wrexham announced this Tuesday the departure of striker Paul Mullin, consolidated through a mutual agreement between the parties involved. Considered one of the main names on the team, the player ends his career at the club that currently competes in the Championship.
Since his arrival in 2021 from Cambridge United on a free transfer, Mullin has quickly become an idol with fans and endeared himself to Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Its history, intrinsically linked to the club’s media rise, gained global prominence through documentaries, elevating its status beyond the field.
At 31 years old, the striker has achieved an impressive record, registering 110 goals in 172 appearances across all competitions during his five years playing for the Welsh team.
According to Wrexham’s statement, the “mutual termination” of Mullin’s contract was carried out at Stok Cae Ras, before the expected end of his contract, which would be in 2027.
Paul Mullin’s remarkable career at Wrexham and the impact of his departure
Through an emotional post on social media, Paul Mullin expressed his deep gratitude to all his fans, far and near, emphasizing his pride in what they have built together. The player reiterated the club’s special importance to him and his family from the outset, expressing his greatest desire for Wrexham to continue its progression and thanking both those who have kept the club alive and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who he described as “two special people”. Mullin concluded his message by stating that although his playing career may come to an end at Wrexham, his affection and love for the club is unwavering.
Phil Parkinson, Wrexham manager, took the opportunity to wish Mullin “all the best” in this new stage of his life and career.
The coach explained that the arrangement allows the striker enough time to choose his next professional destination, highlighting Mullin’s invaluable role in the history of Wrexham Football Club over the last five years, with his countless goals and memorable moments. Parkinson guaranteed that the player will be a figure forever remembered and revered by supporters.
Mullin was a key player in winning the National League in 2023 as Wrexham secured their return to the EFL after a 15-year hiatus.
At the start of the 2023–24 League Two season, he faced a setback when he suffered a punctured lung in a pre-season friendly against Manchester United. Despite this, in January 2024, he signed a contract extension and contributed decisively to the team’s second consecutive promotion.
For the start of the 2024-25 season, Mullin needed to undergo surgery to treat a persistent back injury, which sidelined him.
Even after his physical recovery, the striker, born in Liverpool, remained unavailable for much of the season, in which Wrexham secured their third consecutive promotion, securing their place in the Championship.
In June 2025, Paul Mullin joined League One side Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, where he registered five goals in 26 games before having his spell cut short in January.
He was then loaned out again, this time to Bradford City, but failed to score in his nine appearances for the team.
The striker returned to his home club at the end of last season and is now free on the transfer market, looking for a new career path.
In an official statement, Wrexham expressed “our sincere thanks” to Mullin for the “huge contribution” he made to the club during his stay.
The club’s statement added that everyone at Wrexham AFC wishes to record their deep appreciation for Paul’s efforts and contributions to football, a period in which he solidified his place in the institution’s history books, ending with wishes of “all the best to Paul and his family in the future”.
