The impact of the Eloá Pimentel case that shook the country in 2008
The case involving Eloá Pimentel shocked Brazil and reached international repercussions in 2008, leaving a deep mark on the country’s collective memory about domestic violence and the outcome of hostage crises. Teenager Eloá Cristina Pimentel was the victim of shots to the head and groin, fired by her ex-boyfriend, Lindemberg Fernandes Alves.
She was just 15 years old when she was held hostage for more than a hundred hours inside an apartment in Santo André, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Lindemberg, then 22 years old, broke into the property, unhappy with the end of the relationship, and the fatal shots occurred as the police were invading the place.
