The Brazilian team’s path to the 2026 World Cup avoids Spain, France or Germany in the knockout stages
Friday brought a favorable scenario for the Brazilian team in the World Cup, aiming for the knockout stages. Two of the teams considered strongest, Spain and France, secured first place in their respective groups, H and I. This definition of leaders rules out the possibility of an early clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s team, at least until the grand final of the tournament.
In the afternoon, the French team demonstrated its strength by beating Norway 4-1. With this impressive result, France finished Group I with maximum success, scoring ten goals and conceding just two throughout the group stage.
Later on the same day, the Spanish team confirmed their leadership in Group H. The team achieved a narrow one-nil victory over Uruguay, in a match held in the city of Guadalajara, thus guaranteeing their position at the top of the group.
Previously, on Thursday, Brazil had already ruled itself out of a possible meeting with Germany in the early stages. The Germans, even after being defeated 2-1 by Ecuador, finished the group stage as leaders of Group E.
With these results, world football powers such as Germany, France and Spain will only be able to face Brazil in the 2026 World Cup in a hypothetical decision.
However, despite avoiding these strong opponents in more acute phases, the Brazilian team will have another high-level clash on their side of the bracket.
The draw placed Argentina, the Brazilian team’s eternal rival, in the same part of the bracket. So, if both teams continue to advance in the competition, a historic semi-final encounter becomes a real possibility.
