New Lumio feature, Project Neo, allows you to control televisions via WhatsApp and Instagram messages
Lumio presented Project Neo to the public in beta, an innovative feature of its TLDR application that makes it possible to locate and display content on a Vision TV or Arc projector. Control is simplified, simply by sending a message via WhatsApp or Instagram. The new feature eliminates the need to type on remote controls or navigate between multiple applications, allowing the user to enter what they want to watch in one of the nine supported languages so that the content is displayed directly on the screen.
The shift in consumption: how TVs adapt to the era of instant messaging
The habit of discovering new series and films has migrated outside of television, taking place mostly in chat groups, short videos or shared screenshots. People often find themselves in front of the TV without remembering the details of what they want to watch. Project Neo appears as a solution to this gap, allowing users to search for content intuitively. You can type or speak a title, an actor’s name, a genre, a mood, or even a vague description of the plot, and the system finds a match. Furthermore, if the person is out of ideas, the system can suggest popular series. On Instagram, a poster or trailer can be forwarded directly to Neo, who will identify the title and display it on television. This feature simplifies the transition from content discovery to consumption, aligning the user experience with how they interact with media today.

Kailash Sankaranarayanan, co-founder and chief operating officer of Circuit House Technologies, explained the choice of platforms. He highlighted that “WhatsApp and Instagram are where Indians already type, interact by voice and share content, making them the natural environment for Neo.” Sankaranarayanan argues that, while hardware technology for televisions has reached a level of similar specifications, the crucial innovation lies in the development of software capable of interpreting users’ intentions.
Raghu Reddy, CEO of the company, highlighted that the beta phase of the project aims to engage Indian consumers in improving the system. He emphasized the importance of allowing users themselves to influence how the search for television shows will evolve in practice, rather than relying solely on Lumio’s internal testing and guesswork.
The trial version of Project Neo can now be accessed through an update on the Play Store. However, the functionality is exclusive to owners of Lumio Vision TVs and Arc projectors. At launch, the system supports nine languages: Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Odi, Marathi and Kannada, with plans to include more languages in the future.
