Nathan Aké negotiation: Fenerbahçe approaches agreement with Manchester City for 7 million pounds

Turkish club Fenerbahçe are in advanced negotiations with Manchester City to secure the signing of Dutch defender Nathan Aké. The deal for the defender is projected to cost around £7 million.

The Istanbul team has already reached an understanding on the personal terms of the contract with the athlete, who is 31 years old. However, recent information indicates that there are still details to be agreed between the two clubs before an official announcement.

The market expectation is that the transfer process will be completed in the next few days. The final amount of the deal, including potential performance-related bonuses, could reach £8.5 million.

Aké participated in three games for the Netherlands during an edition of the World Cup, where his team ended up eliminated in the round of 16 against Morocco.

Aziz Yildirim, one of Fenerbahçe’s presidential candidates, expressed a strong desire to bring Aké into the team. The defender was signed by City in 2020, coming from Bournemouth, in a £40 million deal, and has since accumulated 177 appearances for the English club, showing his ability and experience in top-level football.

Manchester City were already planning to negotiate Aké in this transfer window, as the player was in the final year of his contract. The decision also reflects a reduction in the athlete’s playing time under Pep Guardiola in the most recent season, which motivates him to seek a new challenge and greater protagonism at another club.

Last season, the defender started just 17 matches across all competitions, with just six of those appearances in the English Championship.

“The player, who represented his country at a FIFA World Cup, is expected to join our team at the training center in Austria as soon as the authorization procedures are completed,” said a Fenerbahçe spokesperson.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Aké won a wide range of titles, including four Premier League championships, two FA Cups, two League Cups and a Champions League title.
