The morning tranquility in Santo Antônio de Jesus, in the Bahian region, was interrupted by a serious incident involving animals. A stray dog lost its life last Sunday (5) after being brutally attacked by two pitbulls that had escaped from a residence. The episode, recorded by residents, quickly gained attention on social media.

Around 8 am, in the Maria Preta neighborhood, the scene shocked witnesses. The images shown showed one of the pitbulls, a male, aggressively attacking the dog that lived on the streets. The injuries caused were so severe that the victim was unable to survive and died at the scene of the attack.

Suspicion about the escape of animals

The owner of the large dogs expressed surprise at the escape. He reported that, when he arrived home, the property gate was properly closed, but the animals were no longer there. The owner suggested that the pitbulls’ exit would only be possible if someone from outside had opened the access, raising the possibility of external intervention.

Searches and reunion of pitbulls

Upon becoming aware of publications that warned about the presence of dogs loose in the community, the owner acted quickly. He began looking for the animals on his own, imagining that the pit bulls might have moved toward the family’s old address. The search was intensified with information from residents.

The possible reason for canine aggression

A possible reason for the male pitbull’s aggressive behavior was presented by the owner. According to him, the female was in heat, and the attack occurred when the stray dog approached her. This behavioral factor, linked to the protective instinct, may have triggered the violent reaction.

Legal responsibility of animal owners

Incidents involving loose animals raise important questions about the responsibility of their owners. In Brazil, legislation can hold owners responsible for damages caused by their animals, especially in cases of negligent care. The Environmental Crimes Law (Law No. 9,605/98) and the Civil Code (Law No. 10,406/02) provide for punishments and reparation duties. Authorities may impose fines and, depending on the severity, the owner may face legal action, including for failing to exercise caution when keeping or driving dangerous animals.

Security measures implemented after the incident

After location, the owner managed to collect the two pitbulls without them showing any resistance. He reiterated that the animals, when restrained, did not show aggression, and deeply regretted the tragic outcome, classifying it as an unexpected fatality. Given the repercussion and seriousness of the event, the tutor assured that immediate measures were taken. He detailed that the security of the place where the pitbulls are kept has been reinforced, with the aim of preventing further escapes and ensuring the safety of everyone in the neighborhood.
