The Washington Commanders are about to sign cornerback Rasul Douglas, according to released information. The player, who was not linked to any team, must sign a one-year agreement with the franchise, valued at up to US$3.8 million.
Douglas, currently 30 years old, arrived at the Miami Dolphins last year, joining the squad after the final cuts of 53 athletes. He participated in 15 games last season, and despite starting as a substitute for Jack Jones and Storm Duck, he took over as a starter after an injury to Duck in the first week, establishing himself as the team’s main cornerback at the end of the campaign, demonstrating his resilience and ability to adapt on the field.
The athlete faced a period of inactivity, missing two matches due to foot and ankle injuries. However, his return in Week 13 was marked by a remarkable performance, with interceptions recorded in two straight games.
Last season, he caught 82 passes his way, resulting in 54 receptions given up, totaling 515 yards and three touchdowns for opponents. Additionally, Douglas managed to defend 13 passes, reaching the second best mark of his career in a single season in this regard.
His exemplary performance earned him the honor of AFC Defensive Player of the Week following a game in which he blocked five passes and made a crucial interception against the New York Jets during Week 14.
Throughout his nine-year career in the NFL, Douglas accumulated 93 starts for five different franchises. Among the teams he defended are the Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills. The cornerback has a total of 21 interceptions in his professional career.
