A strong police mobilization recently took place at a gym in the Upper Bavaria region of Germany. All available security forces were called to the Welfen-Gymnasium, located in Schongau, southwest of Munich. The incident resulted in at least two young women being seriously injured, and a 16-year-old suspect was detained by authorities.

The emergency call was received at around 12:50 p.m., mobilizing a large number of rescue teams to the scene. The attack happened while classes were in session. The victims, as determined, suffered stab wounds, but preliminary information indicates that their lives are not at risk. A police spokeswoman stated that the suspicion of an “Amok” type attack cannot be ruled out, indicating the seriousness of the incident, which in German terms refers to a violent outburst by one person against third parties. The motives behind the attack remain under investigation.

Arrest of 16-year-old suspect after attempted escape

According to the first investigations, the incident occurred both within the school premises and in the vicinity of the gym. The 16-year-old teenager, identified as the aggressor, tried to escape, but was quickly captured by police teams. During the pursuit, a police helicopter was used to assist in the search. Investigators are now verifying whether the detained young man is or was a student at the Welfen-Gymnasium.

Number of injured is updated by the police

Initially, security sources had mentioned four people were injured in the incident. However, police reviewed the information, confirming that two girls were seriously injured. ADAC Luftrettung reported that six helicopters were mobilized for the rescue operation, and one of them has already transported one of the victims to a clinic for treatment.

Authorities issued an alert asking the public to avoid the area of the incident so as not to disrupt the work. To welcome the families and parents of approximately 800 students, a support point was established at the fire station on Bahnhofstraße. The Welfen-Gymnasium is part of a larger educational complex, which also houses a secondary school and a high school in the small town of Schongau, situated on the banks of the River Lech, with over 12 thousand inhabitants.
