Farewell to ‘Mario Kart Tour’: Nintendo confirmed the shutdown of the mobile game in September
Nintendo confirmed, on Tuesday, July 9, 2026, that the popular game ‘Mario Kart Tour’ will no longer be available. The title, which was accessible on Android and iPhone devices, will be permanently closed on September 29, marking the end of a journey that began in September 2019.
Amid preparations for the shutdown of servers, the company has already suspended the sale of the game’s internal virtual currency. Even so, users who have remaining credits will be allowed to use them in full until the last day of operation.

Unlike what happened with ‘Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’, which gained a paid version to be played offline, Nintendo clarified that there are no plans for a similar option for ‘Mario Kart Tour’. Therefore, after the September deadline, the game will become inaccessible, highlighting the ephemeral nature of many mobile titles that depend on connection to servers, a common model in the sector that raises discussions about the preservation of digital games.

In a statement released on its official blog, the Japanese company expressed gratitude for the support from players during the game’s years of activity.
With this decision, ‘Mario Kart Tour’ will join the list of mobile games discontinued by Nintendo, which already includes names like ‘Miitomo’, ‘Dragalia Lost’ and ‘Dr. Mario World’. In contrast, the developer’s other popular titles, such as ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’, ‘Pikmin Bloom’ and ‘Super Mario Run’, remain active for users.
