Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding ceremony recently stood out as one of the most opulent and expensive celebrations ever seen between entertainment figures. The union of the renowned pop singer and the NFL star generated an investment estimated at around US$30 million (equivalent to approximately R$150 million), covering only operational and logistical costs, according to international press reports. The party, which welcomed more than a thousand guests at Madison Square Garden, in New York, required months of work to convert a sports arena into a sumptuous and intimate environment.
Among the points of greatest disbursement, decoration occupied a prominent place. The couple reportedly invested a minimum of US$5 million (approximately R$25 million) in floral arrangements and scenographic components alone, crucial for the total transformation of the site’s visual identity.
In an interview with “Page Six”, Esther Lee, director of The Knot Worldwide, explained that the magnitude of the event required logistics that were very different from typical weddings held in the United States. According to her, for celebrations involving big names in the world of celebrities, privacy and logistical complexity are the primary considerations.
“For a high-profile celebrity wedding, privacy and logistics dictate the first steps,” declared the expert.
The choice of Madison Square Garden proved to be a strategic decision, aimed precisely at controlling access, closing adjacent streets and guaranteeing private entrances for guests’ vehicles. All planning involved several months of dedication, with a series of meetings to define aspects such as infrastructure, contracts, details of the site plan and menu tasting.
One of the biggest responsibilities of the ceremony was reserving the arena for several consecutive days, an essential period for the assembly and disassembly stages. It is estimated that the rental of the space reached the US$10 million mark (around R$50 million).
Converting the traditional sports stage into a wedding setting required complex engineering and design work. Specialized professionals were tasked with conceiving a warm and inviting atmosphere within a space originally designed for large public events.
According to Esther, the big challenge was to de-characterize the arena so that it didn’t resemble a stadium. The experts, as they explain it, “figure out how to make a cavernous space feel intimate,” crafting a bespoke experience for everyone present.
To achieve this goal, the structure was adorned with custom-made carpets and curtains in shades of white and dark pink, complemented by a vast floral decoration spread across various sections of the room. This meticulous preparation created the ideal environment chosen by the couple for the ceremony, which took place on Friday night.
On the outskirts of Madison Square Garden, fans and onlookers witnessed the first signs of the festivities when digital screens displayed the message “JUST&T MARRIED!”. Inside, an imposing staircase with a red carpet and floral arrangements welcomed each guest.
The ceremony was attended by people close to the couple. Actor Adam Sandler was responsible for making the union official, while Taylor was walked down the aisle by her brother, Austin Swift. On the player’s side, his older brother, Jason Kelce, took on the role of best man.
After exchanging vows, the newlyweds welcomed their guests to an elegant dinner. Among those present, celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Kelsea Ballerini, Machine Gun Kelly and Benson Boone stood out.
In addition to the decoration and general setup of the event, other costs, such as costumes, production expenses and gifts offered to guests, including scented candle kits, totaled another US$2 million (equivalent to around R$10 million).
The grandeur of the celebration also had a significant impact on the local economy. For Esther Lee, the event boosted several sectors associated with the organization of major events and festivities in New York.
“We estimate that the total cost will be in the range of US$20 to 30 million, consolidating the event as an engine for New York’s economy,” said the director.
