Nintendo is signaling a possible implementation of VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology for the dock mode of the Switch 2 console. This functionality, already present in the portable version of the device, was originally mentioned by the company before the launch of the device, creating expectations among consumers.

A new trace of this potential novelty emerged this week, with the publication of a job opening for a Senior Display Engineer. The opportunity description requires knowledge of display technologies such as HDR and VRR. Although there is no explicit confirmation that the professional will be directly responsible for developing VRR, the technical requirement aroused the interest of the gaming community and the specialized press.

As noted by the Nintendo Patents Watch profile, this requirement reinforces the idea that the company maintains projects involving VRR. This technology is crucial for gamers, as it synchronizes the screen’s refresh rate with the frames generated by the graphics card, eliminating visual tearing and providing a more fluid and immersive gaming experience. The presence of VRR support in the Switch 2’s portable mode, combined with the search for a specialist, points to an expansion of these functionalities.

However, Nintendo has not yet issued any official statement confirming the release of the VRR feature for the console when used in docked mode. Therefore, the public and enthusiasts will need to wait for additional information about the implementation and arrival date of this long-awaited feature.

Additionally, recent speculation suggests that, in addition to potential support for VRR, Nintendo would be developing a new hardware version for the Switch 2. Possible improvements include a new LCD display with a renewed design and a specific variant for the European market, which could include a removable battery, increasing the longevity of the device for some users.
