Recently, information released by renowned insider Dusk Golem indicates that a possible remake of the first game in the Resident Evil franchise would be in the early stages of production. The news, shared on his X account, details that the project began to be developed about a year ago, generating great expectation and debate among series enthusiasts.

Dusk Golem specified that the pre-production stage took place between August and September last year. This stage involves a reduced team focused on creating initial concepts and prototypes, preceding the expansion of the team and the effective conversion of ideas into gameplay elements and visual resources. This suggests that the official launch will take some time. The forecast, according to the expert, is that large-scale production will only begin after the completion of Resident Evil Veronica.

Announced in June, Resident Evil Veronica is a recreation of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, scheduled for release in 2027. Observing Capcom’s pattern of interspersing remakes with original titles, the company could plan the next major remake for approximately 2029. However, there is a crucial factor that could change this projection.

Remakes in the queue: other Capcom projects and the future of Resident Evil

In a new publication, the same insider revealed that the remake of Resident Evil Zero has been in full production since the end of 2022. This information places it as the next remake to be released after Resident Evil Veronica. This way, the Resident Evil 1 Remake project would be postponed on the priority list, making any date prediction merely speculative.

Discussions about a new version of the classic are nothing new. In May 2024, there was speculation that the title would be in development to coincide with the saga’s thirtieth anniversary in 2026. This prediction, however, did not come to fruition. In its place, Capcom released Resident Evil Requiem, a new game in the franchise that was well received by critics and has sold more than six million units.

It is important to highlight that Capcom already has experience with reimagining this material. The company released a remake of the original Resident Evil game for the Nintendo GameCube, just six years after its debut on the PlayStation. This same version was later remastered in 2015 for several platforms, including PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Fans’ projection is that a modern update of the game will follow the successful model of Resident Evil 2 Remake. This includes the third-person perspective and the addition of vast expanded content compared to the original version.
