The month of August holds two astronomical spectacles for observers: a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse. Between the night of27th and early morning of 28th August, astronomy lovers across Brazil will have the chance to witness a partial lunar eclipse. According to astronomer Thiago Gonçalves, director of the Valongo Observatory, the phenomenon can be easily observed around 1 am throughout the national territory.

Understand the visibility and timing of the partial lunar eclipse
The expert describes this eclipse as “interesting” due to its partial nature. This means that the Moon will not be completely covered by the Earth’s shadow, but approximately 93% of the natural satellite will be hidden. This characteristic will mean that the Moon does not take on a completely reddish tone, maintaining a small white band on its upper part, which offers a distinct view for observers. Thiago Gonçalves highlights that it is a “perfect event for observers in Brazil” as it is widely visible. The eclipse is expected to begin around 11:30 pm (Brasília time) and reach its peak around 1 am.
