PSN goes offline after instability on Amazon servers and users complain
Thousands of users of the PlayStation Network, popularly known as PSN, faced serious problems accessing the platform’s services on the morning of July 24th. Reports indicated difficulties in connecting to game servers, managing friends lists and even downloading titles, generating great frustration. Sony’s official status, however, displayed normalcy in operations, which added confusion to the disruption scenario.
To clarify the situation, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides a significant part of the PSN infrastructure globally, publicly confirmed that its servers were experiencing instability. This AWS failure was the direct cause of the “blackout” that affected Sony consoles.

Amazon servers demonstrate recovery after affecting PlayStation Network
In a statement, AWS detailed that PSN services were hampered by inconsistencies in its server network. The company stated that measures were being taken to resolve the issue, and the expectation was that PlayStation’s online services would be reestablished in the following hours.

“As routes continue to be restored, customers should notice a continued reduction in error rates and timeouts when connecting to affected services,” AWS said in a note posted on its issue tracking website. The company added that it would continue to monitor the recovery “until all routes are fully restored and service metrics return to pre-incident levels”, with a further update expected soon.
Sony, in turn, did not issue any official statement about the problems on PSN. Throughout the period of instability, the company’s server monitoring website indicated that services were functioning normally, which suggested a failure in communication between Sony and AWS.
According to recent reports from players, PSN services have begun to be gradually restored, allowing access to some store functions and the friends list. Mix Vale will continue to monitor the situation and will bring new information as soon as it is released by Sony or AWS.
