Ubisoft began making PC games available at no cost to specific users who purchased digital titles on Xbox consoles.
The initiative, which began recently, allows owners of certain digital versions of games for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S to redeem the computer editions at no additional cost.
This program differs from Xbox Play Anywhere, which already offers the ability to play Xbox titles on console and PC through the Xbox app. With the new feature, the games will be accessible via the Ubisoft Connect platform, independent of the Microsoft service.
A significant advantage of this change is that gamers will not rely on Xbox servers to access games, a feature that has become especially attractive following a recent outage in Xbox services that prevented millions of users from playing their purchased titles.
Additionally, the transfer can simplify the process of running games on Linux systems. Although the Xbox app is only compatible with Windows PCs, using Proton makes it possible for some Ubisoft titles to work on Linux-based platforms, such as Steam Deck and Steam Machine.
Which titles are included in the Ubisoft promotion
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
- Far Cry 6
- Immortals Fenyx Rising
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
- Riders Republic
- Skull and Bones
- The Crew 2
- The Crew Motorfest
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
- Watch Dogs Legion
How to redeem your Ubisoft PC games
To access the computer versions of the games, the user must own the digital editions of any of the titles listed for Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S and then link their Xbox and Ubisoft Connect accounts.
The transfer also covers season passes and other DLC content already purchased, however, in-game currencies and consumable items will not be included unless the title supports cross-platform saves.
To check the exact content you own on your PC, simply open the Ubisoft Connect app and navigate to your game library. There, the name of the edition linked to your account will be displayed, and each game’s properties page details the DLCs and add-ons you own.
It’s important to note that this procedure only works for getting the PC version from an Xbox purchase, not the other way around. It is not possible to purchase the Xbox edition of a game that you already have on your computer through this offer.
In addition to the redemption offer, Ubisoft is expanding the game catalog with premium editions and additional content available in the Xbox PC app. Among the highlights of this new selection are titles from the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs franchises, as well as Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
