A North Carolina resident attributed his recent $1 million lottery win to a personal connection with the number 7, it was announced on July 30. The top prize was obtained through a scratch-off ticket.

Biscoe resident Tomas Munoz reported to North Carolina Education Lottery officials that he was attracted by a $10 “Triple Red 777 Jackpot” scratch-off ticket that he found at the Candor V Mart, located on South Main Street in Candor, and felt he needed to purchase it.

Munoz explained his fascination with the number: “Seven is my number,” he said. “I was born on the 7th, in ’77.” Belief in lucky numbers is a common cultural phenomenon in many parts of the world, with many lottery players seeking personal meaning in their choices, which adds a layer of mysticism to games of chance.

Upon scratching the ticket without delay, Munoz discovered that he had won the top prize of US$1 million.

Regarding the moment of revelation, he stated: “I felt emotions throughout my body.”
