Shueisha, a renowned Japanese publisher, launched Manga Million on August 6, 2026, a new digital platform that provides free access to pages from almost 400 manga. This initiative marks the publisher’s centenary celebrations and will be available globally for a limited time, bringing a vast library of titles to fans around the world.
The project brings together approximately one million pages, with translations into more than 100 languages, also including Brazilian Portuguese. To start reading, users just need to access the official Manga Million website, without the need to create an account, provide personal data or subscribe to any service.
Manga Million’s catalog includes some of the company’s most notable creations, such as “One Piece”, “Naruto”, “Bleach”, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba”, “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “Chainsaw Man”, “Spy x Family” and “Kingdom”. In addition, there is space for classic works such as “Yu Yu Hakusho”, “Reborn!”, “Nana” and “Kimi ni Todoke”, as well as special chapters and short stories, such as “Look Back”, by Tatsuki Fujimoto.
Platform brings new official translations for hundreds of manga
One of the most important points of Manga Million lies in the number of works that receive their first official translation into other languages. According to Shueisha, almost 300 titles available on the platform are being officially translated for the first time. Of this total, around 50 works were prepared in different languages with the collaboration of international licensing partners.
The project also seeks to display a broader portion of the publisher’s collection. More than 150 titles in the selection belong to the shoujo segment, traditionally aimed at a young female audience. The remaining collection includes shonen manga, seinen and works from other genres and periods in the company’s history.
Although more than 100 languages are covered by the initiative, this does not guarantee that all works are available in all languages. Among the languages mentioned by Shueisha are English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Turkish, Polish, Tagalog and Portuguese.
Confirmation: Manga Million translations are done by humans, not artificial intelligence
Given the volume of pages and languages involved in the project, one of the main doubts raised was about the possible use of artificial intelligence in the process. Shuhei Hosono, editor-in-chief of Manga Plus and one of the creators of Manga Million, confirmed that no artificial intelligence was used in the translations. All work was carried out by Shueisha’s international translators and partners, ensuring the quality and fidelity of the content.
Hosono explained that the idea for the project came from the objective of translating one million pages into one hundred languages in celebration of the publisher’s centenary. In addition to promoting the company’s vast catalogue, the intention is to reduce language barriers that still limit many readers’ access to Japanese manga through official channels, especially in regions where legal distribution is historically scarce, offering an important alternative to piracy.
By expanding free, legal access to previously untranslated works, Manga Million also presents a valuable option to unauthorized sites, particularly in areas that typically see few official releases and suffer from a lack of legitimate options for readers.
What will be the future of Manga Plus after the launch of Shueisha’s new service?
To date, Shueisha has not announced the closure or replacement of Manga Plus. The release positions Manga Million as a celebratory and temporary platform, while Manga Plus continues to operate as the company’s regular service for simultaneous releases and subscription reading.
Manga Plus currently offers free access to the first three and three most recent chapters of several series. The application also has Manga Plus MAX, which offers paid plans with expanded access to thousands of chapters and complete works in English.
This demonstrates that the two services have different proposals. While Manga Plus focuses on the ongoing publication of ongoing chapters and series, Manga Million acts as an extensive commemorative library, bringing together titles from different magazines, genres, and periods in Shueisha’s history.
The publisher has not yet announced what will happen to the content when the Manga Million free period ends. There was also no confirmation regarding the possible incorporation of part of the catalog in the future into Manga Plus.
