A Boeing 737 had one of its engines on fire during a domestic flight in the United States. The episode happened after the aircraft collided with birds while taking off, according to local press reports.

The aircraft, belonging to American Airlines, had taken off from the city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The airline stated that, moments after departure, the engine was hit by birds, resulting in a fire.

The aircraft’s pilot immediately issued a “mayday” alert to the control tower, indicating a critical failure. “Mayday, mayday, mayday. We have an engine problem here”, announced the commander, in a warning that signals serious and imminent danger for the aircraft.
People who were on the local beach reported hearing loud explosions and seeing flames on the plane, confirming the scene.
Despite the great scare experienced, the aircraft returned and landed safely at Myrtle Beach airport, its starting point.
American Airlines confirmed that the aircraft managed to land safely, and all 181 passengers on board were unharmed. This positive outcome highlights the effectiveness of emergency protocols and the training of the crew in critical situations.
