The WhatsApp application has reached the mark of more than 3 billion users worldwide. Of this total, 178 million people are in Brazil, which ranks second among the countries that most use the platform. According to Mark Zuckerberg, Brazilians stand out as some of the most engaged globally, with high participation in sending stickers, voice messages and polls.
Considering this dynamic, WhatsApp released new features focused on the app’s groups on August 4, 2026. The improvements aim to facilitate communication and organization, including improvements to voting tools for quick decisions, the introduction of mentions aimed at all members (@todos) and a simplified method for starting new chats from already established groups.
Important improvements to polls for groups
Polls received three additional features. Users can now set a deadline for voting, choose the option to keep participant names anonymous to other members and modify poll questions within a period of up to fifteen minutes after creation.
How the new mention works for all members
With the @todos tool, all participants in a group receive a simultaneous notification. This simplifies communication and eliminates the need to mention each individual separately, which is useful for urgent notices or changes to plans, for example. For groups with more than 32 members, use of this function is limited to administrators. Even in muted chats, the alert will be delivered, however, control remains with the user, who can disable notifications for the @todos mention in the application settings.
