Discovery of human remains in Tucson is removed from investigation of Nancy Guthrie in the US

Pima County Sheriff’s Office deputies found human remains in a desert area outside Tucson, the agency announced on Aug. 17. The discovery was communicated after the investigations began.

In a statement released on Platform X, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department assured that “there was no indication that they were connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.” This distinction is crucial, given the notoriety of the ongoing case.

The county search and rescue team was called after reports of the location of the remains. The find occurred in the vicinity of West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard.

According to the official publication, the remains appeared to have been in place “for a prolonged period”, indicating that the person had died a long time ago before discovery.

Angelica Carrillo, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department, said she had no additional information to share about the identity or circumstances of the death.

Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on Jan. 31 at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood north of Tucson.

A ransom note related to her kidnapping was released by the Sheriff’s Department in July, claiming that she had passed away. The case of her disappearance, which attracted great national attention, remains unsolved and has lasted more than six months.
