New rumors about Samsung’s high-end smartphones for 2027 are gaining momentum, with an international design database pointing to a possible significant change. The drawings suggest that the Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro may feature a horizontal camera bar, an innovation that would bring several advantages to future users from August 16, 2026.
A few months ago, conceptual images about the cameras of Samsung’s next devices already signaled a renewed design for the Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro. Unlike the vertical bar with individual sensors seen on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the company would be studying a horizontal camera module, more in line with the Google Pixel 11 Pro or Apple iPhone Air models. It is worth remembering that Samsung itself has already adopted a similar design on the Galaxy S10.
Sketch details point to horizontal camera on Galaxy S27 Ultra
Evidence of a design change was found by the Sammyguru portal in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) design database. The sketches reveal a classic Samsung phone style, with rounded corners and flat edges. However, instead of the traditional vertical cameras on the left side, the back shows an apparently discreet horizontal camera bar, housing three individual lenses.
Benefits of a possible horizontal camera bar on the new device
Although the sketches do not confirm the definitive use of this design for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, information from the supply chain indicated, until the beginning of July, that Samsung had not yet put the hammer down on a complete redesign. Renowned leaker Ice Universe, who also released an artificial intelligence-generated image on the subject, stated that he would not be opposed to a change in the Galaxy S27’s camera design.
A horizontal camera setup could solve some drawbacks of the current design. For example, it would allow greater stability when using the cell phone on a table to type or write, eliminating uncomfortable wobble. Furthermore, it would free up more space on the back for Qi2 compatible accessories, paving the way for a magnetic stand without the need for a cover, a feature already present in the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro models. Finally, this design change could mark a new chapter for the camera, which, despite few recent changes, promises significant innovations in 2027, such as a new main camera.
