Driver Kyle Larson’s journey began with a NASCAR Cup race in Richmond, Virginia, and culminated in an impressive victory at Knoxville Raceway in the early hours of August 16, 2026. Thanks to a three-hour rain delay in the NASCAR race and a quick flight, Larson arrived on time for the 65th edition of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals Presented by Casey’s, securing the top prize of US$200,000. The athlete, from Elk Grove, California, led all 50 laps of the contest to secure his fourth Nationals victory in just six years. Including his preliminary heat win, the $2,000 SprintCarUnlimited.com award for pole position, and the $10,000 Beaver Drill & Tool/MPV Express/Mike & Kathy Hulbert Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” prize, his total earnings for the week surpassed the $212,000 mark, marking his sixteenth career victory in the “Sprint Car Capital of the World.”

Larson missed Heat A’s warm-up laps, but managed to arrive from Richmond before the start of Heat B, which had 22 laps. He started from pole position in the 50-lap main race, ahead of competitors such as Sheldon Haudenschild, Kasey Kahne, James McFaden and Buddy Kofoid. Kahne, in turn, overtook Haudenschild on the second lap, taking second place.

Following the race, Larson maintained the lead in the ten-lap Dash race until the final flag, securing his fourth Nationals title with team owner, Paul Silva. Behind him came Haudenschild, Kahne, Schuchart and McFadden. Schuchart managed to stand out on lap 43, passing Kahne to take second place, but Kahne regained the position with just three laps to go. Larson, again in the final pack, rocketed to victory in the final two laps.

The final classification saw Haudenschild in second place, followed by Kahne, McFadden and Schuchart. Rounding out the top ten were Gravel, Kofoid, Price-Miller, Brent Marks and Dietz. Other heat winners included Darin Naida in heat D, Ryan Timms in heat C and Tyler Courtney in the 22-lap heat B.

“It’s extremely surreal,” Larson declared in Victory Lane. He described a “mix of emotions” in the days leading up to it, when he didn’t expect to run but held out a small amount of hope due to the weather forecast. “When I got in the Cup Series car, the forecast called for only a 10% chance of rain at 6 o’clock or so. I was sad for a moment. Cliff radioed in and said there was a rain delay and that free practice hadn’t started yet. I felt a rush of emotion, and it’s amazing that I’m here tonight, talking to you. A huge thank you to Hendrick Motorsports. I couldn’t have done this without them. I felt pretty good at the start. In fact, I was a little nervoso. Me senti muito livre e solto. Fiquei nervoso quando entrei no tráfego, mas parecia que eu conseguia passar por ali sem problemas. A julgar pelos retardatários, achei que seria difícil para qualquer um me alcançar e me ultrapassar. (Paul Silva) não fala muito. Ele tem uma mente muito forte. Ele é muito inteligente. Para alguém que nunca esteve ao volante de um carro de corrida, ser tão bom quanto ele como chefe de equipe é surreal. Ele consegue ler o carro melhor do que eu consigo senti-lo. Acho que ter essa combinação me ajuda a pilotar o sprint car the way it needs to be driven. I hope everyone does”, concluded the champion.
