A calculated strategy by Insomniac Games caused the Marvel’s Wolverine game to be announced much earlier than usual, not to increase expectations, but to control publicity and avoid leaks on the internet. The decision was detailed by Mike Daly, project director, who explained the logic behind this unusual anticipation.

According to Daly, the early reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine occurred because the difficulty of keeping development under complete secrecy was evident. With the vast network of people searching and sharing information on the internet, trying to hold back the news for too long would pose a considerable risk to the exclusivity of the ad.

Assembling the team and producing several games influenced the decision

In addition to concerns about possible leaks, Mike Daly pointed out the practical need to form the development team with open information as an additional factor for the early announcement. He stated that it was important to scale the team with clarity about the project, making it simpler to hire voice actors and other professionals without the barrier of extreme secrecy.

The director also mentioned Insomniac’s working model, which involves the simultaneous production of several titles. The studio is widely recognized for managing multiple franchises in parallel, including the Spider-Man series, with three releases in five years, and the acclaimed Ratchet and Clank games, important pillars of the PlayStation catalog.

Daly explained that Insomniac faces the challenge of developing several games at the same time and seeks to stagger its releases. This approach allows teams to help where the need is greatest, while other projects move forward efficiently.

Studio confident in the risks of early release

This decision to announce a game years before release is not without risks, such as generating a long public wait and the possibility of unexpected delays, which can cause frustration, as happened with The Elder Scrolls 6. However, Insomniac demonstrated clear confidence in its ability to meet deadlines and deliver the game.

Apparently, this confidence was maintained throughout development. Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled for release on September 15th, being exclusive to PlayStation 5.
