The company Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar Games, obtained permission from the United States Court on August 21, 2026 to request Microsoft and Discord to present data regarding the leak of visual content from “Grand Theft Auto 6” (GTA 6).

Two federal magistrates in New York approved the developer’s petitions, in a move that reinforces the protection of intellectual property in the games industry. Both technology companies have until September 4th to provide the requested responses, marking an important precedent regarding the responsibility of platforms in cases of leaks of sensitive content.

This legal request was made after a group of hackers, known as CyberLeek, recently released several videos that allegedly showed the gameplay of “GTA 6”. The recordings appeared on several online addresses, were taken down and then resurfaced on new platforms.

The new open-world title is expected to be released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles on November 19, 2026.

Details about the court request for information

To obtain the court’s orders, the American company Take-Two claimed to the court that the videos circulating on the internet contained copyrighted material, something that the company had not openly confirmed before.

Take-Two requested details to identify three profiles suspected of being responsible for the leak, in addition to information from all participants in three online communities where the material was shared.

According to the documents sent to Microsoft, part of the released content was posted on the GitHub developer platform, which is part of the group. The request sent to Discord indicated that the material had been shared on a platform server, using several user accounts.

The CyberLeek page criticizes Rockstar for selling a version of the game with extra content for a higher price, in addition to offering the title only for digital download, without the option of a physical format.

Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have issued official statements regarding the leaks, which persisted on August 21, 2026, with an unreleased video showing a game character in a sports car theft scene.

The launch of “GTA 6” is one of the most anticipated events in the electronic games industry. Enthusiasts have been waiting for this sequel for more than 13 years, since “GTA 5” became the second best-selling game of all time.

Initially scheduled for the second half of 2025, the release of “GTA 6” was confirmed for November 19, 2026. The game will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
