Actor Dan Stevens, cast to play Alex Murphy in Prime Video’s upcoming RoboCop series, expressed his views on the future of the production. Under the responsibility of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, he aims for the new version to maintain the essence of the original films.
In a recent interview, Stevens shared that the original film is one of his favorites, considered a milestone for him and many of his friends. The artist emphasized the importance of preserving the combination of extreme violence and social satire, which were defining elements of the classic work and made it a cultural icon.
Stevens joined the cast about two months after Amazon officially greenlit the project, which will have Peter Ocko, known for work on The Office and Elementary, as showrunner.
Unlike a direct continuation, the new series will revisit the fundamental premise of the cyborg hero. The plot will follow how a large business conglomerate convinces the Detroit administration to introduce a robotic police officer to the city’s streets, recreating the basis of the original story on August 28, 2026.
Robocop is created from the body of Alex Murphy, a law enforcement officer who lost his life in the line of duty. The main character was played by Peter Weller and Robert Burke in three films released between 1987 and 1993, and by Joel Kinnaman in the 2014 remake, directed by Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha.
So far, the premiere date for the new RoboCop series has not yet been announced.
