The expectation of a more fluid gaming experience, especially for major launch titles, was one of the factors that led some players to purchase the PS5 Pro. However, the recent news that Grand Theft Auto 6 will run at 30 frames per second on consoles generated indignation and ironic comments from a Brazilian gamer about the investment made in Sony’s most advanced model.

“When you feel stupid, remember that I chose to pay R$3,000 more for a PS5 Pro to have the same experience in GTA 6 as someone who has an Xbox Series S”, wrote user Pedroebg on the Threads platform, expressing his frustration.

The player’s statement refers to the 30 FPS information, mentioned by Rob Nelson, one of the heads of Rockstar North, during an interview with Brazilian Davy Jones.

Discussions arise after confirmation of 30 FPS for GTA 6

The comparison the player made does not imply that the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S will deliver the same graphical quality. Immediately, the original Threads post received several responses that pointed out this distinction.

“Just because it’s at 30 fps doesn’t mean all consoles have the same power,” commented one user in response.

Another internet user argued that the PlayStation 5 Pro can offer a superior visual presentation, even with the same frame rate: “It will be 30 fps, but it will be very stable and with an incredible level of detail”. There was also criticism of the decision to buy the PS5 Pro before Rockstar Games released all the technical details of the expected GTA 6.

“What made you buy the PS5 Pro before GTA was released is the same thing that now makes you think you bought it for nothing, haste”, replied a third player, remembering that there may still be significant differences between the performance modes offered on different consoles.

The same frame rate does not guarantee identical graphics

It’s important to note that running at 30 frames per second does not mean that the PS5 Pro, standard PS5, and Xbox Series S will have the same visual quality or the same level of performance stability.

In the specific case of the PS5 Pro, there is a confirmed optimization. Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that it worked closely with Rockstar Games so that Grand Theft Auto 6 takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5’s capabilities, and the PlayStation Store itself categorizes the game as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”. However, Rockstar has not yet specified what exactly these improvements will be on Sony’s most powerful console.

In practice, maintaining the rate of 30 frames per second still allows important differences. The PS5 Pro can use its additional hardware to provide a higher internal resolution, better ray tracing quality, a higher level of detail or a more stable image, for example. This means that, although the framerate is the same, the visual fidelity can be considerably higher, which is a crucial point for those who have invested in the more expensive console.

Another feature that can be explored is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an artificial intelligence image reconstruction technology exclusive to the PS5 Pro. Sony launched an improved version of PSSR in 2026, capable of generating a sharper and more stable image from lower internal resolutions. To date, however, Sony and Rockstar Games have not publicly confirmed whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will employ this new version of PSSR.

PS5 Pro had a price increase while waiting for GTA 6

The player’s outburst gains even more relevance when considering the price of consoles in Brazil. Grand Theft Auto 6, initially scheduled for 2025, was postponed to May 26, 2026 and, in November 2025, received the current release date: November 19, 2026.

During this waiting period, Sony also readjusted the prices of the PlayStation 5 family in the country. As of April 2, 2026, the suggested price of the PS5 Pro increased from R$6,999.90 to R$7,499.90. The PS5 with reader went from R$4,499.90 to R$5,099.90, while the PS5 Digital increased from R$3,999.90 to R$4,599.90. Sony justified the increases as a result of “continuing pressures in the global economic scenario”.

Considering current suggested prices, the PS5 Pro costs R$2,400 more than the PS5 with reader and R$2,900 more than the PS5 Digital. It is this last comparison that aligns with the difference of almost R$3,000 mentioned by the Brazilian player.

This additional value helps explain why the confirmation of 30 FPS generates so much discussion. The PS5 Pro is designed to offer graphical improvements over the standard model, with a more powerful GPU, improved ray tracing and the PSSR image reconstruction system. For those who consider visual quality, resolution or stability sufficient to justify the investment, Grand Theft Auto 6 will still be able to take advantage of these advantages. However, for the player whose priority was to reach 60 frames per second, paying almost R$3,000 more for the Pro model becomes a much more difficult decision to defend, given performance expectations.

The situation is even more curious because Sony itself claims to have collaborated with Rockstar so that Grand Theft Auto 6 takes advantage of the PS5’s resources and obtains its “best performance” on the platform. What remains to be seen is how this PS5 Pro advantage will manifest itself in practice when all consoles are targeting the same rate of 30 frames per second.
