Larissa Cruz Morata, 29, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head inside the bathroom of her residence in Embu das Artes, Greater São Paulo, on the morning of September 6, 2026. The service pistol belonging to her partner, a military police officer, lay directly beneath her body when emergency personnel entered the room.

Dispute over circumstances of the shooting

The military police officer, Vinícius, claimed to arriving units that his partner shot herself. Relatives strongly rejected his account and urged investigators to treat the death as a femicide. Rescuers confirmed her death.

Civil Police investigators registered the case as a suspicious death after forensic experts, responding patrolmen, and rescue teams determined that the initial crime scene lacked definitive physical evidence showing an intentional act of self-harm.

Evidence collected at the residential property

Witnesses confirmed that the couple moved into the house less than one month before the shooting took place. Police focused on several core elements during the initial site assessment:

  • The service weapon recovered from underneath the victim on the bathroom floor.
  • The testimony of the officer sister, who witnessed the couple arguing over a permanent breakup hours prior.
  • Statements from relatives indicating that Morata was in good spirits and actively planning upcoming aesthetic procedures.

Detectives from the Civil Police questioned Vinícius and began gathering security camera footage from neighboring properties throughout Embu das Artes in order to construct an exact timeline of everyone who entered or left the property prior to the fatal gunshot. Forensic specialists collected physical evidence throughout the bathroom and ordered specialized ballistic and trajectory analyses to determine whether Morata fired the weapon herself or if another individual pulled the trigger. Mobile Emergency Medical Service doctors declared her dead after patrol units arrived following the 11:00 AM dispatch.

In an official statement, the Secretariat of Public Security confirmed that Civil Police investigators are analyzing all potential hypotheses while awaiting laboratory test results before issuing a formal legal classification.
