Apple introduced the A20 Pro component during its Surprise and Shine presentation on September 9, 2026, at 10:37 am PT, deploying its first 2-nanometer architecture to overhaul computational power, visual rendering, and machine learning systems across the iPhone 18 Pro family. Silicon upgrades power the new A20 Pro architecture

This proprietary processor will run both the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.

Engineers built the component on a 2nm fabrication process. Tightly packed transistors occupy less physical area on the board. Apple stated that this elevated density drives functional enhancements throughout the entire silicon structure.

Central computing relies on six cores, combining four efficiency units with two supercores that deliver a 20% speed increase according to Apple. Neural accelerators connect directly to all cores to run low-latency artificial intelligence tasks.

A seven-core graphics arrangement yields up to a 40% jump in graphic execution over preceding hardware. Upgraded neural accelerators double the speed of 8-bit floating-point calculations. That acceleration allows the phone to run external large language models directly on the physical hardware.

Adding a second processing module expanded the Neural Engine to 32 cores, which doubles overall compute capability.

Data pathways gained a 50% increase in memory bandwidth to sustain the higher throughput across the processor units. Apple incorporated its widest memory interface ever deployed inside a smartphone line.

Taking structural cues from M-series hardware, the packaging positions the silicon die next to memory chips. This layout isolates memory modules from the system heat pathway. Silicon links straight into a vapor chamber to lower operating temperatures under intense load.
