The upcoming version delivers technical enhancements alongside dedicated control features designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Players can speak directly into the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to issue vocal commands to the rescue pup Oatchi during exploration.
New voice commands and gameplay additions
The title expands the core mechanics of the base game beyond visual resolution increases. Controlling Oatchi through voice input offers an alternative method for directing navigation and transport tasks across alien environments. The rescue dog assists players throughout planetary missions by clearing barriers, carrying items, and defending against hostile creatures.

Dandori Academy introduces 72 challenge stages
The core expansion arrives through Dandori Academy, an extensive challenge module that provides players with 72 distinct stages divided across three structured tiers of difficulty to test strategic efficiency, resource management, and squad coordination under tight limits. The mode features competitive online leaderboards to measure scores against friends and global competitors. Scheduled events include structured tests held during weekly rotations. Players gain access to leaderboards.

Current owners of the original Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch can purchase the Switch 2 upgrade through digital distribution channels. Nintendo will simultaneously distribute a standalone boxed version containing all content on a physical cartridge for retail stores. The physical packaging accommodates consumers seeking boxed media or discovering the franchise for the first time on the new platform.
The retail edition contains the full base adventure together with the Dandori Academy content on a single game card.
Updates for earlier installments in the series
Nintendo also released a complimentary update for Pikmin 3 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch 2, adding higher visual resolution and GameShare functionality. The European rating organization PEGI previously published an age classification for Pikmin 3 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
