Actor RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, died at age 34 from asphyxia caused by hanging in Brownsville, Texas, on October 12, 2026. The finding is part of an inquest report from Cameron County released on Thursday, November 5. The document was prepared by medical and police teams in the county, which pronounced him dead at 1:32 p.m.

His mother, Dyna Mitte, found him without vital signs when she arrived at the home to deliver lunch. She had tried to call him earlier that morning and received no answer.

The actor’s representatives described his death as a suicide shortly after it became public, without giving medical details.

Cameron County report lists hanging as cause of death

The report says investigators found no suicide note or farewell message at the scene. Police had earlier said no foul play was suspected, and the document closes the technical inquiry local justice carried out into outside circumstances.

Dyna Mitte told people close to her that she had noticed emotional swings in her son and kept urging him to resume regular psychological care. Relatives had also followed personal conflicts and recent pressures in his life before the episode at his home.

Years of advocacy and a role based on his own experience

Roy Frank Mitte III was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in early childhood and turned his condition into a platform for representation in film and television. He was chosen at age 14 for the regular cast of Breaking Bad, where he worked directly with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul across 62 episodes in five seasons.

The production drew on his experience to write the role of Walter White’s eldest son, who used crutches and had motor difficulties on screen. Away from the sets, Mitte spoke for educational campaigns on professional inclusion of people with physical disabilities. He also addressed international panels on accessibility in the entertainment industry.
