Red Command launches bombs with drones against police in the Alemão Complex, in Rio de Janeiro, this Tuesday (28th). The action occurs in retaliation to Operation Containment, which mobilizes 2,500 agents to serve 100 arrest warrants and 150 search and seizure orders. Traffickers erected burning barricades and reacted with gunfire to prevent the advance of security forces.
The operation results from investigations of more than one year by the Narcotics Repression Police Station (DRE). At least 30 investigated criminals originate from Pará. Four people died in the clashes, from Bahia and Espírito Santo.
- Two rifles, one pistol, and nine motorcycles were seized.
- 23 traffickers were arrested in the first hours.
- One BOPE police officer was grazed on the leg.
Drone attacks
Police from the Special Resources Coordination (Core) received the attacks with explosives launched by drones. The artifacts aimed to prevent the progression of troops in the region.
Criminals used the technology to retaliate against the entry of forces into areas controlled by the Red Command. The Alemão and Penha complexes cover 26 communities.
Seizures and arrests
Agents seized heavy weaponry during the initial incursions. Arrests occurred at various points in the favelas.
Motorcycles used by traffickers were recovered for analysis. The actions continue ongoing to locate remaining targets.
Investigations point to territorial expansion of the criminal group. Leaderships from other states are among the wanted.
- Dois fuzis, uma pistola e nove motocicletas foram apreendidos.
- 23 traficantes foram presos nas primeiras horas.
- Um policial do Bope foi ferido de raspão na perna.
Victims in clashes
Four suspects died in shootouts with police forces. The injured receive care at the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital, in Penha.

Technological support for forces
The operation employs drones for aerial monitoring and two helicopters for support. 32 terrestrial armored vehicles facilitate access to narrow streets.
12 demolition vehicles remove barricades set up by traffickers. Ambulances from the Rescue and Salvage Group handle emergencies on site.
